How to make an attribute searchable in the Member Directory

This article provides a step-by-step process on how you can enable users to search in the directory according to a user's attribute

1) Navigate to the People Attributes tab under the Membership section in the Admin Site. This will show you the list of all attributes of users and each of its settings.

2) Choose the attribute you would like to make searchable in the Member Directory. After making your selection, you will be presented with detailed information about the attribute, including whether it is a default attribute and the associated viewing permissions for each attribute.

3) To activate the searchability feature for an attribute, select the viewing permissions that align with your requirements. You have the option to choose from Anyone, Logged In Users, or Members & the User to enable searchability for that attribute.

  • Anyone: Anyone who can find the user's profile can view this attribute, including logged-out users.

  • Logged In Users: Users within the community can view this attribute.

  • Members & the User: Only active members and the user can view this attribute.

  • The User: Only the user can view this attribute.

  • Only Admins: Only the admins can view this attribute.

4) To turn on searchability, toggle on the radio button to allow users to search by this attribute in the member directory.

5) After you have made your changes, be sure to click the submit button to save them. To verify that your updates were successful, refresh the page and navigate to the Member Directory in the Member Site to see which attributes are now searchable.
